Plant Swap

We'll have a night sky information booth at the Community Plant Swap to be held Sunday, April 11, 2 - 5pm in the Pavilion at Blanco's Gem of the Hills, 2233 US Highway 281 North.

Blanco Market Day Info Boothand Light Bulb Swap

BCFNS will have a booth at the April 17th Market Days on the square at the Old Blanco County Courthouse in Blanco, Texas. Stop by between 9 am - 4 pm to pick up information on how easy it is for you to help preserve our beautiful night sky and protect wildlife. Don't forget to bring your old outdoor light blubs to swapfor new night sky friendly bulbs! They are FREE!!!

It's rumored the wizard of the Night Sky may stop by Market Days and the Plant Swap. Another great reason to attend.



Special Surprise

We've been working with the LBJ National Historic Park on a special night sky preservation video. It's almost done,and we hope to release it (to wild international acclaim) during the International Dark Sky Week, April 5-12. Look for it!

International Dark Sky Week

April 5-12, 2021is International Dark Sky Week. This week is a worldwide event hosted by the International Dark-Sky Association to celebrate the night and bring attention to the problems caused by light pollution. Check out the website International Dark Sky Week for more information on events including an opportunity to post your night sky photos and how you can support the organization with a donation or to buy a T-shirt.

2024 Eclipse Preparation

We areworking with the Hill Country Alliance to publicize to elected officials and first responders the need to prepare for the Solar Eclipse that will come rolling through the Hill Country in 2024. We can expect literally tens of thousands of visitors to descend on us for the event. Blanco County Judge Brett Bray is on top of this and the BCFNS has offered to help wherever we can.

Reminder: 2020 Art Contest

The time is drawing near for Blanco County middle school and high school students to submit their artworkfor the BCFNS Art Contestat their respective schools. This contest is being held in conjunction with International Dark Sky Week, April 5-12. We are excited to see what the studentspresent using the theme “Discover the Night — Deep in the Dark of Texas™”
